Are you a new resident to the City of Watertown? This section of the Watertown web site contains many pieces of important information for those of you who are new to Watertown, including a list of frequently requested phone numbers, information on your utility bill, fees for building permits, licensing information for dogs and cats and some of the important city ordinances.

Utility Billing Information
Utility billing (Water & Sewer) is a monthly bill. Your bill is in the form of a postcard with 1/3 perforated to be returned with your payment. Your utility bill will arrive on or before the 1st of each month and is due on or before the 15th of each month. There is a 10% late fee on any unpaid balance paid after the 15th of the month. If you have any questions regarding your water meter or utility bill, contact City Hall at (952) 955-2681.

Building Permit Information
Permits are required for the following building/remodeling projects:

  • Garage/storage shed 10' x 12' or larger (based on estimated value), certificate of survey required.
  • Driveway - $1,000 deposit ($500 for curb and $500 for street). Returned upon completion if no damage occurred.
  • Re-Roof - $43.00
  • Re-Side - $43.00
  • Re-Window - $43.00 if replaced with same size, any size change requires a regular building permit.
  • Deck/porch (based on estimated value), certificate of survey required.
  • Shed less than 120 square feet requires a land use/zoning permit only, issued by the City $50.00.
  • Fence- $50.00
  • Accessory structure or building (Fence/Shed less than 120 square feet; swimming pool; dog run), certificate of survey required.

Dogs and Cats
Pets MUST be leashed when off of the owners property, and MUST be licensed after the age of six months. The licenses are available at Watertown City Hall, 309 Lewis Avenue South at a cost of $16.00 for two years (natural); or $10.00 (spayed or neutered). Animal licensing information is available here. Proof of rabies vaccination is required at time of purchase. There is an unlicensed dog/cat fine of $25.00.
