Building Permits

The City of Watertown requires applications and/or permits for a variety of new construction and home remodeling. A list
all building permits are available in .pdf format.
Permits are required for the following building/remodeling projects:
- Garage/storage shed 10' x 12' or larger (based on estimated value), certificate of survey required.
- Driveway - $1,000 deposit ($500 for curb and $500 for street). Returned upon completion if no damage occurred.
- Re-Roof - $47.50
- Re-Side - $47.50
- Re-Window - $47.50 if replaced with same size, any size change requires a regular building permit.
- Deck/porch (based on estimated value), certificate of survey required.
- Shed less than 120 square feet requires a land use/zoning permit only, issued by the City $50.00. Certificate of survey required.
- Fence- $50.00. Requires a landuse/zoning permit only, issues by the City.
- Swimming Pools - Any permanent swimming pool 24" deep or 5,000 gallons or great need a building permit. Please contact the
planning department for more details for fencing requirements.
Building Inspections for the City of Watertown are performed by the city's Building Inspection Department. To arrange
for an inspection, please call (952) 442-7520 at least 24 hours in advance.
